A great book presenting research on employment and automation in an easy to understand way. Very clear evidence on why high levels of automation is far into the future and how our economies are affected by it's current levels of employment, productivity, and economic growth. It would be interesting to have read  but more on what solutions there could be to these imbalances and a bit more insight into wht the future holds.

yeah, thought the critique of automation theorists & ubi was sound and the brief explanation of the economics of why late capitalism fails to distribute labour well felt solid. on some level wish the conclusion were more than "you know what would be great? full communism" but also my main takeaway from that section is the importance of having a proactive vision for the future, rather than only being reactive and fighting to plaster over the cracks in the capitalist structure we inhabit; that a post scarcity world will only arise from our collective struggle for dignity and freedom, rather than against redundancy and the threat automation.

abundance is not a technological threshold to be crossed. instead, abundance is a social relationship, based on the principle that the means of one's existence will never be at stake in any of one's relationships.

The book comprises a very comprehensive and detailed analyisis of the global economy and its future. It changed many of my believes and let me discover more about the automation of the jobs, how they are affecting the jobs market and the Universal Basic Income (UBI) and its possible future and consequences.

A short little book that focused less on the automation of work and more on the topic of post-scarcity and UBI than I thought it would.
I felt it was missing a conclusion although it was thought provoking .
