Forgot how good this book is. It has some really nasty and unforgiving parts, and Jack Sawyer is a very cool protagonist.

Maybe Sophie/Judy and Henry are a tad too perfect, but that’s a minor quibble. Also the bikers are far less annoying than I remembered. Bring on Jack Sawyer 3!

Despite a rather poignant ending, Black House was one huge disappointment. I loved The Talisman and couldn't wait to see a real continuation of the character, but Jack felt more like when the sequel to your favourite movie stars a different actor in the lead role. It's just not the same. A convoluted mess of a plot with uninteresting side characters make this one of the slowest reads I've ever encountered. For Dark Tower completists only I think.

Am I crazy for preferring this to The Talisman? Do I prefer it? I don't know. It's a dark ugly serial killer yarn set decades after the original in a completely different genre. It's off-putting and unsettling.
