This one could be called Odd's Hodgepodge Adventure.

Don't get me wrong. I love this series and I can't wait to read all seven books. With this one, however, I thought it was too odd (pun intended) and there were too many unanswered questions, which the previous three had a continuing story line but not so many scratch-your-head moments.

I hope the next book in the series can answer some of this.

Odd Thomas has moved away from Pico Mundo. After spending months in a monastery, recovering from the actions in the previous book, Odd has been drawn to California by dreams of a red tide and explosions. On the pier, he meets a pregnant women that he has seen in his dreams. "Call me Annamaria," she says. Odd is stalked by three men, all of whom are involved in the Harbor Patrol. He uncovers a plot to destroy America and have martial law declared, bringing to power a right-wing conservative. Coyotes pace beside Odd as he walks the streets of Magic Beach. The fog swirls through town and masks all noise. People are shadows moving through the fog. Odd is haunted by Frank Sinatra and Boo, his ghost dog. Weirdness and magic percolate through town.

More of the same.

Still quite readable, but the plot lines have gotten too silly for me to read any more of these.

I love the humor, I care about the character, it's a quick read, with a satisfying ending.

A lot is left to be explained as you reach the end of this novel. It seems there are more supernatural powers at work but no answers as to what they are or why. This left me a bit flustered. I also am tired of the dialogue being repetitive. I love Odd Thomas as a character, but the dialogue and story need to step up with the next book.

Interesting. I like this character. Still breaks my heart.

I usually enjoy the Odd Thomas books, but this one was just seriously tedious. It was full of vague plot lines and side stories, what I found to be annoying run on metaphors and side talk by Odd showing just how "quirky" he is, and other things that made the book just an annoying read. I was forcing myself to turn the page towards the end; there was a lot of skimming involved.

I loved every other Odd Thomas book and it disappointed me that I could not get into this one. The story was dragged out and it didn't offer the same variety of interesting characters or places as the other books. I was expecting more but it did not deliver at all I'm afraid.
