Keeps you guessing, that’s for sure. I found it a tad self indulgent; saying what the message is supposed to be rather than simply showing you. Thought-provoking and deeply important messages about women and motherhood are present even if overshadowed at times by a “self aware” style that turns annoying.

cannot tell you the reason i did not like this because it is exactly the type of book i usually enjoy but for some reason nightbitch just did not work for me. (is it because of or despite the fact i am neither married nor a mother and dont ever want to be either? who knows)

As someone who has no intention of being a mother, I didn't go into this book expecting to be as touched, as inspired as I was. Not only is it a very real look at motherhood - both the trauma and the deep love of it - but also the magic and power of womanhood without truly villianizing men by the end
The main character is allowed to be human, to be vitriolic and vulnerable, selfish and self-sacrificing. The author doesnt shy away from gore and the woman's mistakes but also makes the shame, and later self discovery, truly palpable. Incredible read.
