That... Was dreadful. Regardless that it's set, for whatever reason, in India at a very traumatic time for the Indians with only 2 pages acknowledging it and no Indian characters at all (What on earth was the point of setting it in India? Very problematic) but it was also incredibly tedious, melodramatic, anger inducing, and just so pointless. What a waste of my time.

Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Historical fiction is not my preferred genre or even a genre I usually read a lot. But this one appealed to me, through the beautiful cover, and the description.
India is undoubtedly, one of my favorite countries, so to read a book set in India was just perfect! This was a good read, easy to go through, and really enjoyable. I loved the characters, the setting, and overall the story!
Highly recommend

Unfortunately, I felt no connection or empathy for the characters…also did anyone get “the notebook” vibes??? Made the ending so painfully obvious.
I had a tough time with this book. To begin, it was not what I had expected. Going in I had the expectation of the protagonists being native to Bombay, not British, which given the history of colonization of India sickened me. I felt the setting of this book was completely culturally insensitive and written in ignorance and disrespect. Especially having been written from a place of privilege as a white and british author. This story could have very easily taken place in england or any other european country affected by WWI and it would not have changed the storyline.
With that said, regarding only the protagonists and the love story, it was very compelling and a page turner. The characters were well developed and the loss and grief was tangible. However, given the obvious ignorance aforementioned, in good conscious I cannot give this book a good rating.
Jenny is a talented author, but as an author, and society, we need to do better.

Thank you Netgalley and St Martins press for providing me a copy of Meet me in Bombay by Jenny Ashcroft for an honest review.
This story is beautiful and heartwarming. It deals with love and separation and never giving up. This book takes place in 1913 and there is a war going on. After Madeline and Luke are married Luke is called off to go to war. Then one day Madeline gets devasting news that Luke has been killed. Grief overtakes Madeline and she has a hard time believing this to be true.
I enjoyed the story and the characters from beginning to end. A fantastic read.

I adored this book!! & isn't this cover just beautiful? Meet Me in Bombay is a love story and such a good mix between historical fiction and romance. I fell for these characters because of how relatable they are. I felt their joy and their heartbreak. I celebrated with them, cried with them, and hoped for them. I also enjoyed Jenny Ashcroft's writing. The different perspectives were written really well and really put some depth into the story. This was such a heartbreaking and heartwarming story. If you love historical fiction or romance novels, then definitely check this one out!
