This was sweet and low stakes, a good break from the weird scary stuff I’ve been reading. Reading how they built and improved the coffee shop over time was very satisfying in an Animal Crossing kind of way. My only beef is how fanfiction-y the language could be sometimes. For some reason any time a fantasy character  says “Gods” or a kiss is described as “brushed their lips together” I lose 5 years of my life.  Anyways,  Thimble is a baller and my favorite book character in recent memory.

Cozy, cuddly and just absolutely lovely. Read this with a cup of coffee in hand and really take time to appreciate its flavour.

Viv is a career barbarian adventurer who is ready to hang up her broadsword and reinvent herself. With her life savings, a magic stone, and a whole lot of hope, Viv starts the process of bringing a Gnomish delicacy to the city of Thune: coffee. This is a sweet, low-stakes, cozy fantasy with a loveable cast of characters and a beautiful found family plot line.

A book like a warm hug and sweet as a cinnamon bun.
I really love the idea of a fantasy hero giving up her adventures to pursue her dream of opening a coffee shop. And it does not get boring as the incredibly lovely characters carry you through the book. I'm really glad, I found this book.

I loved this book!!! Its a low-stakes novel and the romance is wonderfully balanced with the plot itself. The characters are lovable and the villains aren't, and I can't wait to start the prequel Bookshops and Bonedust.
