Such a comfortable book! I decided to listen to the audiobook before I bought the hardcover, and it truly is a treat. The author, Travis Baldree, entrances listeners with a variety of voices for each of the characters and intricate world-building details. This book is definitely YA, but I can see anyone enjoying this (there are a few curse words and a little violence if you are looking to gift this book to younger ages).

I will be doing a review of the actual writing once I read (or re-read) the hardcover version.

Cozy? Sure. It was cute and filled with  whimsy. I love a found family and this definitely had some endearing characters.

But…Oh. My. God. I. Was. So. Bored!!! This was more about opening and running a business day in, day out than high fantasy fun. Maybe if it had been shorter I’d have enjoyed it more.

I will say though, I haven’t read food descriptors like this since Redwall, so…it has that going for it.

A very light read.
I did not get any "romantic froth" from this book, I got coworkers with no romantic tension who kiss and I can't understand why.

I don't get depth from any of the characters.  I got the inkling of a building community theme but it didn't feel fully formed.

I enjoy "slice of life" stories, but this slice was a surface skim off the top instead of a full slice with layers.

I read this on audiobook, I think it would have taken me much longer to get through it if I had to physically look at each page.  I was mildly entertained so 2.75 stars.

I had previously read the prequel bookshops and bonedust, which I enjoyed more though not enough to understand the hype.

I would label these books as middle grade fantasy instead of romantasy, as there is no romance.  Characters kiss in kids media and it's not considered romance.  The Lion King is more of a romance than this series, at least Simba and Nala have some romantic tension.
