The perfect cozy first read of the year. I'm willing to hand-wave a few logical inconsistencies regarding the Madrigal subplot - and the somewhat silly choice of using the terms 'latte' and 'barista', but tiptoeing around others like 'biscotti' and 'chocolate croissant' - to enjoy the lower stakes, found family fantasy vibes. Breezy to read and easy to love, with very charming and memorable characters. Reading this made me crave some fresh baked pastries.

This is a cozy lil' read. A sweet story about found family and fate without being too saccharine. Set in a high fantasy world.

I expected more fantasy adventure (or any, really). Instead it's the "npc" side of the fantasy. The non-adventurers who keep the world moving and the coffee hot while the heroes are out slaying dragons. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.

I listened to the Audiobook book of this, read by the author, and it was excellent. The book was a cozy read, although it did get tense at times and there was a prolonged scene w a fire, so check the CW.  There was plenty if mystery and just enough adventure to keep things interesting while still being a relaxing read.

The MC has had enough of adventuring and quite literally hangs up her sword in the interest of opening a coffee shop in a new town.  She quickly needs to make friends with some locals to help make her dream a reality and somw friendships blossom into more.

There is a wide variety of characters of lots of different fantasy races and many offer nods to the existence of real world racism as the characters all kind of acknowledge having dealt with prejudice in their pasts.

The characters all form heartwarming bonds, sometimes where you least expect it, and the MC finds there is more to life than adventuring and coffee.

And there is a giant cat!

This book is perfect for anyone wanting a cozy read during the autumnal season. I love a good low-stakes novel. A lot of people have said it was boring, but ngl, I feel like that was sort of the point? There might be little to no plot, but the vibes are immaculate!

“WHAT FLAMES COULD NOT CONSUME,
NEVER SHALL BE EXTINGUISHED”

What an adorable little story. It's comforting, funny, heart-warming, relaxing,
and it's oddly satisfying watching Viv build up the café.
It was so easy to read and I was entertained the whole time, even if I did guess the main message of the book pretty early on.
But the romance caught me completely off guard, I loved it!!
