This one is dark, very dark. I appreciate the use of very serious and unfortunate real life consequences of pregnancy. I did enjoy watching the characters fall in love. But. They remained in their own bubble for most of the book. My favourite parts were with Colin(mainly) and when they bantered with other characters. The story became too confined and lacked the complex emotional and relationships that I adored on the earlier books of the series. Will grudgingly finish the series.

4.5/5 rounded up because this is the best Bridgerton story (so far)
Lies between ultimate favourites and meh
The plot is more interesting with all her conflicted emotions but idk

a 3.5.
i shockingly devoured this in less than a day and a half. i do love a friends to lovers with an unrequited aspect attached to it. this was bit more refreshing than i found the last few ones because of the fact that she was a widow and there were issues there that the other siblings had not dealt with. i thought both her and michael's grief and ways of dealing with the loss of john were heartbreaking and relatable. the epilogue from john's mother??? whew the tears!
as with all bridgerton novels, julia really just knows how to make a man unlikable at times, but i think michael is going to be a wonder on screen once they remove the eh parts, as will him and francesca's story and they are definitely my second favorite couple after kate and anthony.
