Just like Henry, I thought Vicky was quite a loon at the beginning but her and Smuckers grew on me like no tomorrow. The plot of Smuckers was so random that it was hilarious. I loved the chemistry between Vicky and Henry, the build up and the growth in their relationship. The only thing I did not enjoy was the common miscommunication trope that plagues so many of romances. Where the couple splits or ends up in a fight all because they don't communicate or refuse to listen. But other than that it was a cute, quirky, sexy romance.

Let me tell you this, I was quite happy going into the book. It was cute and very unusual for a romance book. A dog? Owning more than half of a company? I mean, how much more fun could this book get?

But as we progressed further into it, there it was. The lazy writing and lazy cliches that end up irritating me. I wanted to finish this book since I got it for free during “Stuff your kindle day” and I guess it made me lose a lot of brain cells. That Vonda/Vicky persona didn’t work out well enough. There were moments where you want to root for her but she ends up disappointing you instead. For a heroine being painted as strong and mighty, she’s a whiny person with a dark backstory. One thing that irks me the most are protagonists being defined by their dark pasts and although there are a lot of books who delivered that perfectly, this book made it her personality. Without her dark past, she’s literally a bland character who takes care of a dog.

And please, Henry? What even is this? Not more than three weeks in the book, and they’re already fucking? Where’s the romance in that? Where’s the build up? For a book so long it didn’t deliver any developments between the two. First you have a childish protagonist and a boring male partner. Second, the book literally sees sex as a solution to whatever. She’s crying? Sex. They have unsolved conflict? Sex. What is it about books wanting to rush into building the relationship of the characters? Is there such a demand for sex scenes that it literally takes up almost half of the story?

I don’t like this book at all. It’s a waste of time. Although this is subjective, I would personally say that if you ever think of wanting to read this book, just save yourself.

3.5 rounding up. Enjoyed both main characters, hilarious concept with a fun execution, and chemistry galore. Some of the scene cuts and transitions felt a bit odd/abrupt.

This was fun, with a sad past tossed in and a hell of a lot of spice.
