This is such a rollercoaster of emotions from the middle to the end. I tried to put the book down and have some 'rest' time from reading. When I got to the middle, it was hard to stop. I devoured the world-building. I loved how the author obviously knows how some readers' brain works so the author lays some easter eggs and the readers will only realise it right at the moment when it is finally revealed in the story. I didn't think that Sena and Remy will take some space in my heart. I was so sure it'll just be Iska but Sena and Remy had me wishing the chapters were longer with more scenes of them together.
And I just wanted to say that, giving Sena two mothers was brilliant. I always love it when there's LGBTQIA+ in the story. Safe to say that the author is open to the community.

The gist I got was it was set on an ice planet with races to win for corporate organizations. Genetically engineered animals and humans, with prejudice against those for corporate organization and those against. I was a little bored by this, but I'm sure it'll help me understand book two, which started better than this book.

This was an absolutely beautiful book. I loved the writing, the story, the pacing.
Sena's grief was very real, and was done very well
I loved Iska, she was an incredible representation of Sena's mothers unbreakable spirit living on, and of Sena herself
I loved the way Scavvers were presented and present in all things that Sena did
And I most of all loved the found family, and the closure that came with it.

As I got to the last few chapters of this book, I could not put it down. I just wanted Sena and her wolf to make make it to the end in one piece. That Sena comes out with a found family at the end is even better.
When Sena angers the local gangster instead of doling out some type of punishment he forces her to help heal his prized fighting wolf. But when she attempts to steal from him, she is forced to flee with his wolf in tow.
She turns to a team of scientists who offered her a way off-planet if she helps them get to the finish line of the planet's infamous sled race. A race Sena vowed to never participate in after the death of her mothers on its trails.
As the race unfolds Sena leans into the survival skills her mothers taught her as her group faces many dangers along the way.
Thanks so much to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

Sena survives by picking pockets and avoiding anything related to the racing system that fuels much of the planet's livelihood. That system cost Sena her mothers. Unfortunately, one of the local crime lords has an eye on Sena, despite her best intentions, she gets trapped in his snare. The race becomes a way to escape him and a way to escape with the wolf that shares her mother's name. Sena is a prickly protagonist, haunted by what she has lost and the discrimination she gets for being half "scavver" (a more back-to-the-earth type of group on this frozen planet that tries to live with the elements, rather than change them).
