Sena swears she will never get involved with the sled races that killed her parents, but when she angers a local gangster she finds herself aiding a scientist and his racing team. Can she escape the ganger's wrath through the race, or will the race claim her life instead?

I think this was the first sci-fi/survival story I've ever read, and overall I enjoyed it. I loved this book's imagery, especially how the author described different winter scenes. The main character, Sena, was definitely pushed to her limits throughout the story, and seeing her and Iska interact was one of my favorite things.

There were only a couple of things I didn't really care for. The story did start off a little slow and took a while to build-up to the actual race. But once it got to the race it was everything it promised to be. There was also a lot of repetition about how evil the corporations of this sci-fi world are which was fine. However, I thought the author did a good job showing how they were evil so having it stated plainly over and over and over again felt unnecessary and took away from what was currently happening in the story.

I also liked the overall worldbuilding, especially with the wildlife which were equal parts cool and terrifying. And the whole scavvers thing was fascinating and I would love to know more about them.

The world this book was set in is really interesting and I enjoyed many of the characters (though Sena’s angst sometimes frustrated me). I was underwhelmed however by the plot and the pacing. The story was very slow for the first two thirds, and then felt rushed at the end. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable read, but not one I’m likely to read again.

Everytime you think the bad things are over something new and bad happens. If you want to know if it will have a happy ending or not check behind this spoiler tag:
It has a happy, hopeful ending even if not everything has gone well.

I finished the whole thing so it can't be that bad but seriously don't read/listen if you're looking for something lighthearted.

While I didn't go into this one knowing it was ice-planet sci-fi with bad*ss wolves, I found that it was exactly what I wanted to read! I loved that there were certain things about the ice planet that I deal with every day on the top of the mountains here in CO.
