Initial thoughts? Utter patriarchal, misogynistic, privileged white male BULLSHIT! Oh it made me angry. But I figured the bad boy would fall in love and put the good girl above all else by the end so…on I carried.
There was plenty of spice, and that of the kinky variety. The enemies to lovers and borderline hate-fucking was hot. It’s action packed and drama filled.
And yet…I couldn’t help but focus on the downsides.
There was kind of a weird fixation on music, I felt. Like any time anyone did anything, such and such song came blaring through the speakers. And the songs really had no bearing on the story - it wasn’t as if a song came on the radio that reminded someone of something heartbreaking and it made them cry or whatever. Literally just “this song started playing” and that’s it. But it happened a lot, clearly to the point that I’ve noticed in a negative way.
The writing feels kind of repetitive in parts, and certain things are told in an unnecessarily complicated way that just left me confused. I think it was done for the drama factor but honestly I had to reread bits and skim past other parts to make sense of it so the drama factor was wasted on me.
It’s a shame because I really wanted to love this book but I considered DNFing so many times. I persevered because I wanted to know how it ended but there were more negatives than positives for me.
I know a lot of people love this series though so don’t let my opinions put you off!
