I know the book starts in the mid-90s, but I did not vibe with some of the choices the author made, especially in the first part. Got some casual misogyny going with the rape lie and I feel like using r*t*rd wasn’t necessary. Also some characterizations of the, like, only black character felt a little racist (why was that the only time it was explicitly mentioned that a character smokes weed?). Couldn’t really get over all of that, even though it doesn’t really happen again in the second or third parts. I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the characters or their actions afterward.
