(SPOILERS)

It started out alright... then it just went off the rails as soon as the second killer was revealed. I didn't notice the supernatural tag before reading so I suppose that's my own fault. Not at all my thing at all, especially when it kind of implies that (at least in that universe) serial killers are just like... possessed by demons or something. Defeats the whole purpose of human choice, you know?

I was enjoying the psychology and internal struggle of the protag with his disorder but after he killed the cat I just checked out, realized it was more or less shock value from then on. If you want a realistic depiction of dealing with sociopathy, this ain't it.

I got over halfway through the book and wanted to finish it but I just felt like I was completely uninvested. Wouldn't recommend.

Also, lots of violence against women for whatever reason, much more so than men. The kid constantly daydreams about abusing/killing women, especially ones he finds attractive, and it's gross. I guess that's the point, but the misogyny really takes me out of it.

It felt to me to be a bit of a slow start considering the stakes that were raised in the last book, but it more than made up for it with the antagonist reveal and resolution. While the imminent threat to our protagonist seems less extreme for the majority of the book, the personal stakes to his "rules" and grasp on sanity and humanity feels all the more pressing as his personal relationships are explored, as well as the consequences to last book's resolution.

A really great book for people who like true crime and the supernatural. Be warned, it goes to some dark places.

This book starts focusing slightly more on the MC and his relationship with others, such as Brooke. So the book is about 50% relationships and 50% plot.
