i read this in 2017-2018 and at the time, it impacted me a lot. i have very vague memories of reading this book but i remember it was for school and i remember being near tears by the end.

Good book. Interesting twist to the traditional Holocaust story. Written for young adults. Very fast read.

A heartbreaking but brilliant book. The ending especially was beautiful. My only issue was the pacing; the story started out slow and then changed entirely in a few pages. I wish the book was a little longer to show the gradual development of what happened in 1942; I just didn't believe that Chaya's family had no idea what was happening to Jewish people until they were abruptly taken to the camp. Aside from this, I thought this book was great and will definitely recommend it to older kids.

emotional slow-paced

I read this book at some point as a kid...one that I was asked to read for a school project or summer reading assignment...and I didn't appreciate it enough then. I'm so glad I reread it as an adult, as the message is so powerful. The gentle combination of history and fantasy (Hannah's "time travel" is never really explained), combined with the horrors of the Holocaust, make for a really powerful read.

I was assigned to choose a book about the Holocaust for school and write a book report. At first I didn't really like this book because Hannah seamed to whiny. but I soon got over that as she became Chaya, and I was hooked. I wanted to know so badly what happened next and didn't want to put it down. this book made me feel like i was actually there, and made me glad that i wasnt.
