HATED IT!!! So depressing I had to take a break after each story. No redeeming features whatsoever - everyone who lives in their small town is Maine is sad...and if I lived there, I would be too! Don't know how it won the Pulitzer

An interesting idea: a novel made up of only somewhat related short stories, all linked by one extremely unlikable protagonist. And yet, in the end, you feel more sympathy for the woman that you do anger towards her. That takes some pretty amazing story-telling, and Strout delivers. Love Olive or hate her, you won't easily forget her.

What a beautiful novel told in such a beautiful way. It captures some of the deepest truths about life, from childhood all the way to old age. I particularly loved the 'Winter Concert' story, but all of them were beautiful and unique and interesting. I think that's what is so good about this book: it makes life interesting again. Thank you Elizabeth Strout 🩷

Written in engaging short stories. I liked the writing they characters. Some were only likeable once you came to understand their personal story or pain. I would like to have learned more about Olive herself, though I enjoyed the other stories and seeing her make a entrance in each.
