I wanted more olive and less randoms, but I still loved it. Kimberley Farr is a fantastic narrator
I am not a huge fan of short stories, but the setting and premise of this book appealed to me. Almost all of these stories are rather dark, with moments of self-understanding giving way quickly to more base human impulses, emotions, and fears. There were a few gems in here though, and the writing style was strong if a bit overworked at times.

Multiple character stories linked together primarily through living in small town. Reflective on raising children, marriage and old age.
This book was a slow burn and it took me a while to become invested in it. 13 loosely linked, intimate, realistic, charming stories later and I’m a fan!
I didn't love it when I read it but I just heard a panel on the Diane Rehm Show and they agreed that it's a book that needs a second read to get the full effect. So I might try it again some day.
Beautiful, if scattered, prose and complex characters, but oh so dark. It's really a collection of short stories about the same town over the decades with one central character appearing (or starring) in all of them, but mainly it's an exposition on loneliness and abandonment, physical and emotional. It's one of those books that I can appreciate for its artistic merits, but didn't like at all.

I think I need to try to re-read this in a few years when we aren’t in the middle of a quarantine. I found the writing to be wonderful but the content to be tough to digest.
