To be fair, I'm quitting half way through but I'm finished. I haven't found any likable characters and it's too depressing to continue. Too many others on my "want to read" list.

“Was Ann a bit stupid? Olive had taught school enough years to know that large amounts of insecurity could take the form of stupidity. “
“suddenly it seemed to Olive that every house she had ever gone into depressed her, except for her own, and the one they had built for Christopher. It was as though she had never outgrown that feeling she must have had as a child-that hypersensitivity to the foreign smell of someone else's home, the fear that coated the unfamiliar way a bathroom door closed, the creak in a staircase worn by footsteps not one's

“And then as the little plane climbed higher and Olive saw spread out below them fields of bright and tender green in this morning sun, farther out the coastline, the ocean shiny and almost flat, tiny white wakes behind a few lobster boats- then Olive felt something she had not expected to feel again: a sudden surging greediness for life.”

One of Sarah’s 5 stars and the one my Aunt said to start with of those remaining on the list. I feel like I know a couple Olive K’s and appreciate how unique her character is in literature.

I know so many people just love this story. Sadly, I'm not one of them. I don't understand the point of the story. We see some brief glimpses into Olive's life, and we clearly see her anger, but to what end?
I really tried hard to pace this book and not gobble it up in one bite but her writing is so gorgeous I found it almost impossible - I love Olive Kitteridge! Such an observer of life, all those details, just brilliant. Brilliant! Read it.
