I’m not sure if I liked it better than the first book, but it felt… deeper. It had a great character arc for Zephyrus/The West Wind. It’s supposed to be inspired by the Greek myth of Hero and Leander and the Scottish ballad Tam Lin, of which I am completely ignorant, but it relied heavily on organized religion. Brielle is in the equivalent of a convent. It just made it seem like the only way Zephyrus was redeemable was through Brielle’s faith. As if someone who didn’t share in that faith couldn’t offer him that same grace. I don’t know, maybe I’m reading too much into it.
Truly, I liked it and will continue the series.
