def found this book super compelling. there was a short period in the middle where i was finding it a bit tedious, but it for sure picked up in the second half. i really like the language atwood uses/the way she writes. it was a great tactic to reveal pieces of the past and how society got to be like this in bits, as it obvs left me wanting more. and of course, i love that it takes place in boston. when i thought it ended with offred going into the black van, i was disappointed for a second that it was so open ended, but ok with it. but then the later part about the "notes on history" made it clear she did escape, and i'm a total sucker for a happy ending.
I think I “read” this book in high school, but it was nothing like I remembered! I found it hard to put down, and it was really interesting to think about the ways I would behave in such a society.

Wow. I can't believe I am reading this book for the first time at 38 years old. So interesting. I really enjoyed it. Phased in and out a few times unfortunately but would probably read it again.
