This was such a interesting book to read. It’s a great debut book but not one I would read again. I found some of the book boring to begin with and I found it a struggle to read at some points. The characters were well written but you didn’t really get the character relationships till the end of the book and the action part of the book didn’t happen till the end either which I though was not a good move as it would of been better in the middle. The plot of the book was well told and well written. Xx

Holy shit. I haven’t been gripped by a book like that in ages. Each chapter just left me wanting more.

I’m not usually a massive fan of thrillers, but oh my god, this book is amazing. I personally love a YA novel because I find them easier to read - the writing isn’t overly pretentious as it can be in adult novels - and I flew through this one. There aren’t many books I’ve read in 24 hours, but I’m not surprised I can now add this to the list.

The whole premise of this one drew me in from the beginning - seriously, who thought putting a kids soft play in an old prison was a good idea? (Still can’t believe that’s the part based on truth!) The main character, Nia, wasn’t the best protagonist; she was a little naive and way too obsessed with other people’s opinions, but she’s also a 15 year old girl, who wasn’t like that at that age? I really loved her relationship with her younger sister, Kayla, and how much she grew even though the story took part in a single day.

I really hope the author writes a sequel to this because I’m dying to know what could possibly happen next!

It was okay. I didn’t find the plot predictable, however I didn’t feel the need to keep finding out what happens. I kinda just kept reading because I wanted to finish the book.
I didn’t like the MC, in fact the only character I liked was Kayla.
The end did shock me, but only because it was so graphic. Reading some parts made me feel kinda sick.

Being British made this book really confusing. British teen books often have a juvenile style of writing, even when they're YA like this book is, which was extremely jarring against the extreme bloody violence towards the end of this book.

I think if the story wasn't told in a younger style I would have really enjoyed it. The majority of the story lulled me into thinking I knew that all that would happen at the end of the story was the Nia would simply leave with her sister and new found friend. So the sudden twist was so welcomed.

The ending is pretty brutal, finally explaining the strange noises Nia had been hearing and the reason for her sister's disappearance. It was fast paced, gory and pretty shocking, I flipped through the pages pretty quickly to see what would happen next and I wasn't fully sure Nia would survive the prison at a few points.
