Lovely romance with real, flawed but growing characters. Mallery never disappoints.

When a book starts with the sentence “I thought there’d be more sex.” I know I’m going to be in for a fun read. Throw in a coastal setting, a bookshop, fierce female friendship and some romantic love interests and I’m happier than a pig in muck.

Bree, Mikki and Ashley each share space creating the perfect business, books, gifts and baked goodies. Every Friday they have a champagne toast on the beach to their success and friendship. Three very different women and their stories all coming together as their bond strengthens.

This book made me want to be part of the gang, their refreshing honesty and open discussions on life, love and sex gave the characters a realness that is often missing in lighter reads. I mean who knew you could have sex past twenty!

With some scenes that will make you blush as it gets as hot and steamy as the male love interests. It’s certainly more risqué than the author normally goes that’s for sure, if she’s trying something new this reader likes it.

This made my heart swell, my belly chuckle and is a quintessential beach read.

DNF’ed at 20%…. Had a hard time finding character’s interesting after 100pages…

I’m trying this new thing where if I’m tired I simply put down the book and go to bed. But that‘s not to say that the Boardwalk Bookshop didn’t put up a considerable fight when I tried to do the right thing. Bree, Mikki and Ashley have a beautiful friendship. Like if Along for the Ride had focused on the adults instead of the kids.

Part of me considered Mikki the main character because she owns the titular bookshop but I really enjoyed how the book seamlessly cycled through the lives of all three women. And that the problems they faced didn’t seem manufactured (though there was a considerable amount of stubbornness and bullheaded stupidity that made me want to shake some of the characters and tell them to do better).

This book checked a lot of boxes for me: there’s a bookstore heavily involved in the plot and setting, small town beach vibes (even if it’s not really a small town), lovely female friendship and fun descriptions of food. Plus some of the main characters are writers and bakers, which again, are what I gravitate towards often.

Also, any book that ends with recipes and champagne recommendations gets bonus points, naturally.

This is a great beach read! Three women combined forces and decided to come business partners. As their business endeavor strives, their personal lives get complicated. It was fun getting to know all three women and how they make time for each other weekly for a champagne drink walk on the beach. I really love how Susan Mallery emphasizes the importance of women friendships and how they always step up to support and help each other. I really enjoyed reading this and it made both my bookstore loving and beach loving hearts happy.

4 stars for the book in general
2 stars for the whiny Ashley ‘I have to have wedding’ character.

This was a smack you in the feels friendship book! You could really only wish that you had friends that are willing to tell you right to your face exactly what your problems are and then love you anyway. That’s what these three ladies end up being to each other and it’s beautiful. The relationship stuff could be in any book but the friendships between the women make this book exceptional.
