This book helped with my pre-sleep anxiety! Short stories from the future for the win. Every story was engaging and captured my interest. The first story was probably my favourite, but one thing I enjoyed about each story was the thread of hope and optimism in even the darkest of circumstances. Perfect pandemic reading, who knew.

Very dated and the short stories felt like you already needed to know a lot about the characters, like I was reading the third chapter of 6 different books. I only enjoyed the first two stories.

This was my first experience with short stories and I’m not sure how to rate them. I loved the first two, liked the next two and hated the 5th one and the last one was just ok. I felt like some of them were just too short and I just wanted to stay in that world longer but it ended so abruptly and I was left wanting a longer version, more explanation for some. Overall, it was an interesting read and would maybe pick up another short story book in the future.

DNF with only parts of the first three stories read, then gave up - the seven or so fantasy stories had a ton of promise… but it shaped up not to be for me.
The first story was interesting but didn’t warn me about the self harm and it threw me off.
The second was way too detailed about creepy aliens.
By the time I reached the third I was pretty much done, and when it started talking about mask wearing and bio warfare I was just ready to be finished.

I mostly enjoyed these short stories, but some fell flat.
“Inertia” was excellent and address depression in an important way.
“The Spinners” was not good. I didn’t care about the characters and I got really annoyed when I realized we were basically reading Stephanie Meyer’s “The Host.”
“Hearken” was okay. I liked the final message about our lives and how they intertwine.
“Vim and Vigor” was okay. Too teeny for me, maybe?
“Armored Ones” made me happy because it returned to Thuvhe/Shotet and some amazing, familiar characters.
“The Transformationist” was pretty good. It addressed some important issues around abuse and repressing who we are, but the characters and topics weren’t done justice because it was crammed in to a short story.

I had high hopes and at the start I was vibing but a lot of this just felt like recycled ideas from Roth's other series. Most of it was predictable and full of cliches. It was a quick read, at the very least and I still love Veronica Roth because of obvious reasons but I'm not really a fan of this. #sorry
