DNF 46%. I started this book 3 years ago and I still can't finish it. Might not be the right time for me to read it.
Maybe it's the lesbian in me but this girl should'vee steered clear of Rochester, what tf r u keeping in the attic and WHY
5 stars. Jane Eyre has become one of my favorite characters of all time and I loved the writing.
There are defo issues here, but I love jane so much.
I remember reading this book late high school/ early college years and enjoying it. But rereading it all these years later, I’m like …….WHAT?!?
Ok I remembered the basic plot points, and knew that of course the writing style and societal norms are of a different era. But I forgot how icky Rochester was. 20 year age gap, weird employer power dynamic, sure, but he plays all these weird mind games with Jane during their “courtship”, not only gaslighting her about the whole wife in the attic thing, but flirting with other women to gauge her reaction, and at one point DRESSING UP AS AN OLD GYPSY WOMAN TO GET YOUNG LADIES ALONE WITH HIM IN A DARK ROOM. Also, fun things like darkening his face with soot to play charades. And constantly loving that Jane is so innocent and small.
Jane is a good character, fierce and principled. But she still has a “not like the other girls” vibe going. Also, her morals are really really Christian. And occasionally classist.
All this being said, I believe this book is often held up as an example of terrific plot structure, and I have to agree that I was never bored, and the reveals were well-timed. Could have done with a bit less of the moral soliloquies.

Nunca le puse mucha atención a esta historia. Por más que lo tenía en mi estantería y escuchaba que era un imperdible, lo dejaba pasar. Tanto así que cuando finalmente lo desempolvé, ni siquiera tenía muy claro de que se trataba. Y así sin pretensiones, me vi inmersa en este clásico de la época victoriana sintiendo las penas, alegrías y amores casi tan intensamente como la protagonista.
La narradora es la misma protagonista. Jane Eyre nos cuenta su vida desde que, al quedar huérfana, queda al cuidado de su tía, quien no le tiene nada de cariño y decide enviarla a un colegio para huérfanas, donde aunque tampoco la pasa bien, se termina adaptando.
Una vez terminada la etapa de instrucción, Jane consigue trabajo de institutriz en un nuevo lugar donde se empieza a sentir mucho más cómoda y feliz.
La historia me atrapó desde el comienzo. Ritmo ágil y dinámico con la sensación de que algo está por pasar. Y te intriga y te sorprende. Tiene escenas de amor que ilusionan, otras trágicas que entristecen y otras que te fastidian y enojan. Los valores morales y las creencias religiosas están muy marcadas. Los personajes evolucionan y se sienten reales: ríen, anhelan, aman, se desesperan y tú con ellos.
Jane pasa por pruebas difíciles. Ella te habla directamente y te transmite su dolor y su pena, asi como también su determinación, su fuerza, sus convicciones y su gran amor.
Una novela adelantada a su época donde el rol de la mujer se pone sobre el tapete.

Magnífica novela que al principio es un poco dura, injusticias por las que tiene que pasar Jane Eyre pero una vez que pasas los capítulos y aparece Él, la historia es para devorarla porque ambos son personajes llenos de pasión con unos diálogos tan cargados de amor. Es un amor tempestuoso Pero "Jane Eyre" es más que eso, porque es un clásico de mucho y profundo análisis, con una protagonista que es icono femenino para la época. La narración es al más puro estilo Brontë con pinceladas de misterios sin resolver y con un personaje que deja huella. Jane nos cuenta su historia en primera persona con tono feminista para la época y que reclama el reconocimiento de la igualdad de intelecto entre hombres y mujeres y el derecho a la educación para ellas.
Lo recomiendo.

22 days later and I’m still thinking about this book daily, I did imagine that a book ever can leave such an impact on me, I the dear reader felt as if I was a part of this story, I was indeed.
This book left me feeling empty with the idea of wishing that I would be able to write a masterpiece that will make other people the same way I felt while reading Jane eyre.
