Another reviewer had a good idea for a concise review: how not to be a jerk when talking to other people.

Pretty basic and redundant overall. I was bored early on but powered through the whole audiobook as it wasn’t very long.

Despite being a tad obvious, there were some good reminders:

* Before you start a conversation, know what you want to get out of it. This will help drive the conversation.
* THINK before you talk
* You can always pause a conversation and revisit it later. Especially if it’s going poorly. Or even if it isn’t, it’s okay to pause and circle back later.
* If hand gestures don’t come natural, don’t force it. It will look as awkward as you feel. Be yourself and do what comes naturally.
* Reframe mistakes as possibilities to learn
* Use “and” instead of “but” when you disagree with a colleague
* Seek first to understand, then for yourself to be understood
* Don’t “one up” people with better stories
* During small talk: leave space in the conversation. Ask open questions. “What are you doing this weekend?” - “what do you like most about camping?”
* A conversation where you dominated the convo is a failed conversation

Great book about having meaningful conversations in any situation: coworkers, strangers, friends, family, etc. I liked that this book had good points that were short and simple to understand, with related “case studies” as examples of the do’s and do not’s and how they can lead to lasting effects after the conversation.

It is true that some of these points are obvious, but I think with good reason. It is easy to understand what you need to do in order to be a good conversationalist, and harder to implement these things on a consistent basis, as it requires awareness and discipline.

I definitely recommend this book. Free with audible premium.

I enjoyed this book, and it contained a lot of good advice and perspective. Although I believe the book accurately reflects how many people believe, it should be noted that the author doesn't take into consideration at all the behavior and feelings and behavior of people on the spectrum.

The audio book is well read. Some of the advice is a bit obvious but lots of little ideas are good things to think about when you interact with people in the world. A few of the tips in the book stuck with me and help me to be in a better mindset when I communicate with the people I talk to.

I’ve met quite a few people that should take a few notes from this. Including myself.

Knocked a star for bringing up Hamilton. The bane of my existence. The worst ‘musical’ I’ve ever encountered in my life. Anyways all the information given was insightful.
