I loved reading this book so much! I had to slow down many times to ensure I was enjoying it. There was so much covered regarding the Chinese people who worked in France during WW1.
I must say that Camille's character was not my favourite. It was terrible and sad what happened to her. And I think the only reason she began as a duchess in the story was to further isolate her from any female friends. But I found it hard to reconcile hers and her father's characters with the people described before and after they moved to the cottage.

Pauline was a lovely character and I would love to read a part 2 to her book. It seems the story leaves off in 1937, a very interesting time indeed.

I definitely enjoyed this more than Library of Legends, which I read a few years ago. I think that might be because this one didn't have the fantasy elements and was a straight historical fiction novel (w/ romance elements instead). The story was compelling and I enjoyed the characters and writing. It was a bit strange to me the way the timeline was handled, going forward and backwards so we'd know about things happening in the past before we would read it transpiring in the past. I didn't mind it really, but I did wonder why it was set up that way.
