besties i read the book bc of the webtoon comic and people always say “the book was better” but in this case i don’t think i could choose which media form i preferred bc they both did an outstanding job of telling the story. a very unique and modern universe with all sorts of mythological creatures, corrupt governments, and morally gray characters, it’s everything i could ask for. the main character is not relatable in obvious ways but she’s easy to sympathize with and it’s hard not to love her, super excited for the sequel and to further explore this universe

This took me a while to get through, but I ended up loving it. It's one of those books that makes the reader think. I loved that there was even commentary within the book on why people read books like this and how the characters don't think it's entirely right for people to enjoy books/shows about morally ambiguous characters.

None of the characters in this book are "good people." But many are trying to survive as best they can, even if it means doing something morally repugnant.

This is still ongoing, but I'm marking it as read because I've read all the free updates so far, and I don't think there are many more left.

Anyway, an awesome webcomic adaptation of one of my favorite novels! Most fans of Not Even Bones will love this. It's almost like getting a super accurate movie/tv show adaptation.

4.5 stars.
I mainly decided to read this because of the Webtoon version that is being published on webtoon.com. It was intriguing enough to get me to pick up the actual book.
I really loved this book. Although there was a lot of gore with limbs being sawed off and eyes being torn out, I really liked the world-building. So many different fascinating and terrible creatures exist in this universe and the characters are almost constantly in danger. Nita is a likable main character and I'm excited to see what comes next in her story. I hope she finds out what her mother's been up to
Spoilerand I hope she gives Fabricio a piece of her mind!

I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and doesn't mind gore.

So many thoughts about this one lmao
  • great concept but it wasn't executed/developed to its full potential (aka character development suffers, not enough worldbuilding)
  • messed up world and messed up protagonist obvs
  • disturbing, dark, lots of gore, lots of violence and sadistic scenes insert a bajillion TWs
  • Nita and I would have so many issues with each other lol She's just an asshole and I absolutely hate the what-the-fuck kind of choices she makes, they don't add to her character, she highkey failed Critical Thinking 101
  •  also also aLSO the only reason I rate this one higher compared to the other ones is that this one actually has some fucking plot

This is a book about human trafficking, black market organ dealings, and some really terrible people all the way around.

It's a good story. I'm just not terribly appreciative of the back drop as I have some squeamish issues, but overall the story is good, but it does take a bit for it to get going, it felt terribly slow until about 60% through the book.
