For such a short page count I got pretty invested in these characters! I did feel a bit like I got dumped into the middle of a story, but the context came through and I found myself enjoying the ride. I actually started this book on my phone while waiting in line for a ride at Six Flags. This is quite a spicy book. I normally get a little annoyed at characters who are too horny to function, but it was done well here.

This was really fun! Henry's had feelings for Margo since meeting her seven years ago. When Margo shows up at his door to ask for his help, the man is absolutely HELPLESS to refuse her which we love. And we end up with a brothers-best-friend roadtrip romance! They're super cute -- though I do wish there was like, one more chapter (maybe an epilogue?) after they finally get together.

I try not to rate short novellas like these. However, I would like to say that this was an absolutely wonderful story, with hilarious dialogue, and interesting characters.

Despite the short length, the plot was built up beautifully, and we had a proper understanding of the characters both before and during the road trip.

Did I just listen to a perfect historical romance novella audiobook? Apparently so! The pacing and characterization are better than they have any right to be for this format, frankly.

Margo is an energetic, kind-hearted hedonist. Henry is her brother's scholarship kid bestie ~~and pine tree~~ who happens to be so besotted with Margo that he helps her out with an intense and poorly planned expedition to meddle in her twin sister's business. I love them both. Sweet, funny, and steamy.

As a bonus, the narrator is excellent. I'm so excited to listen to the next two!

Ich dachte, das wäre eine supercute historische Romanze, Slow Burn und eine ganze Menge Abenteuer… Aber da habe ich was ganz arg missverstanden lol.

Margos Zwillingsschwester haut mit einem älteren Typen ab, um in Schottland zu heiraten, deswegen bricht Margo zusammen mit dem besten Freund ihres Bruders - Henry - auf nach Schottland um die Hochzeit zu stoppen. Nur Margo wusste nicht, dass Henry seit Jahren in sie verliebt ist und sich kaum noch zurückhalten kann.

… Ja, ich habe versehentlich Erotica gelesen (bzw. angehört). Nicht als ob es schlimm wäre, ich habe nur NULL damit gerechnet?!??

Aber ich muss sagen, es war schon ganz gut.

Sehr interessanter Plot (der leider nur wenig ausgearbeitet wurde, weil das eine Novelle ist 💔)
Mega gute Chemie zwischen den Protagonisten
Echt schöner Schreibstil
Die Hörbuch-Sprecherin war wirklich phänomenal! Sie hatte SO einen tollen britischen Akzent (der Dirty Talk war deswegen umso besser, auch wenn es mich immer wieder aus der Bahn geworfen hat)
Gegen Ende haben wir aber bisschen den roten Faden verloren und ihn gegen Spice ausgetauscht… kann ich aber verstehen, weil es immer noch nur eine Novelle ist.

After so much high praise from other reviewers, I was bored with this one. I most enjoyed Margo’s declaration in the final third:

“I think you’ve invented this lie about how you are so far below me to cover up the truth.”
His mouth felt dry. “And the truth is?”
“That you didn’t trust me.”
“I—” He wasn’t sure how to answer that. “Of course I trust you.”
“You don’t,” she said. “You don’t trust me to make a fair judgment of you. You invented a whole story in your mind and never gave me the chance to make my opinion heard. You never gave me the opportunity to know my mind, to have some say over what happened between us. If I had not forced the issue on this trip, we would still be dancing out of each other’s reach. We would never—”
