Somehow Pratchett topped Guards Guards with a book that takes all that charm, characters, and socialist snark and just adds to it! With so many sincerely satirical takes on social issues (gun violence, racial tensions, diversity, the sense of class betrayal - just to name the ones that spoke to me), and some new characters who had such beautiful moments and hilarious charm (Detritous and Cuddy were such great additions with a beautiful dynamic that unfolded between them!). A book that had moments that tugged at my heart strings and others that had me giggling away to myself! A true delight!
Genuinely so excited to pick up my next City Watch book in two months!

Solid as always.

The Night Watch returns, and they bout to diversify! This being an early 90s book, there's some uncomfortable "ho ho lads now we are all politically correct" humor that I was bracing myself for some real awkwardness - especially as Pratchett drops some weirdly risqué Mr. Plinkett type jokes about "25 year olds in the basement" but it all pans out towards the end.

I love that this is a book about the seductive and demonic powers of personal firearms, something eagerly accepted/fostered by those types that would love a strongman leader and a well-insulated aristocracy on top of society. Especially pre-Columbine and post-Thatcher/the Wall, that is... A Lot.

Also a big fan of Gaspode being a sad little dog that's perfect for wringing emotions out of, but he's just this whiny little self-pitying shit most of the time.
