It has been a long time since a book made me laugh this hard. People were glancing at me in concern as I snickered at the gym. People came in from other rooms at home to figure out what all the belly laughing and carrying on was about. ("They're trying to get arms from the armory" apparently is not a sufficiently helpful explanation.)
This is the second Watch book (that I read third, but never mind).
Vimes is increasing the ethnic diversity of the Watch and dealing with his impending retirement. Both have unexpected (and uproariously fun) consequences.
I love these books so much. They're not beautiful, lyrically written. But they're funny, and true, and oh-so-much fun.
