A solid three star book for me. I got to the middle of this book and thought "maybe I don't like the Watch, maybe I just like Vimes (and Carrot)" because Vimes is a much smaller part of this book than the first one. I didn't enjoy his identity crisis, even though I think it was well written. This book didn't quite hold my attention as much as the first one, but it was still fun and I think they are in a great place for the next in the Watch series.

I really enjoyed Guards Guards, but this book is a definite improvement over its predecessor. I loved the characters. The interactions between the characters were probably the best part of this book. The murder mystery plot that drove all this was good enough. Additionally, the political commentary thinly veiled behind all of the above was great.
