This was my second attempt at Emily McIntire. I read Hooked first and didn't love it but I'm thinking it was more a me issue than anything because this book was AMAZING. I couldn't stop reading it. I love the twist of The Little Mermaid characters, I never thought Id be happy to read about the demise of my favorite princess growing up but boy did I ever enjoy it!!! I enjoyed this book so much I went back and read the rest in the series. Highly recommend.
I loved this story! I love the twist of the fairy tale and how she spun it and made it her own! I thought I wouldn’t like it at first when comparing it to the rest of the never after series and how fast paced they are but this ended up being one of my favorite plot lines of the whole series!

After having read most of this series, I would say this was my favorite one thus far. Vanessa was a strong character with a solid background. The same was true for Enzo. In the past, only one of the characters had a solid background/ backstory that explained their "issues" or likes. This made me far more invested in their success.

I loved it. I kept wanting to read more, read whether either Venesa or Enzo would figure some stuff out about each other and the world they're in.

This was an amazing Little Mermaid retelling with a big twist. It was also an amazing slow burn and I enjoyed seeing everything play out.

Honestly only finished this because I don’t like to give up. Didn’t feel attached to the characters or find their relationship believable, and the sex scenes were underwhelming. Found the narration annoying.

🎧: 5/5 I loved the voices - dual narrations are fun when you can tell that the narrators absolutely coordinated how they depicted the characters!
🌶️: 2.5/5 - there are quite a few spicy scenes once the spice happens but nothing too wild. They're good though!

I finished this book a few days ago and can't stop thinking about it. When I tell you that I couldn't put it down, I mean I struggled so badly to put it down to get some decent sleep because all I wanted to do was read this book so every moment I had free, I'd immediately read this book.
Having a female villain is always such a love for me. You just don't see good ones written often enough and Vanessa was just so damn good. Yes, she had a traumatic childhood but ultimately accepted her role in the family business and did her part well. She was strong, fierce, but filled with so much love. Emily just really out did herself with this FMC.
Enzo was great. The man just felt like the beauty he exuded through the books. He was strong, has power, but also tried so damn hard to be a respectable gentleman. His yearning for her was so incredibly delicious, like, P H E W, I am unwell at how incredibly well he was written in every facet. I feel like I don't get enough novels that actually let you know about the male lead. I do think there could have been a bit more room to learn about him for sure but ultimately, he was well done!
The tension between the two characters is truly so top tier. The slow burn be slow burning (slow burn for a standalone book). It was the right amount, it had the right chemistry, it just really filled my brain space in such a beautiful way.
The ending was well paced, there were a couple of spots that did feel a bit rushed like
