This sequel is definitely an emotional ride, everywhere from seething anger to anxious horror to the sparkliest, squishiest joy.  Once again it defies expectations and draws you inescapably in.  Tensions run hot and stakes run high and through it all you have Sideways just being relatable as hell.  Mr. Scratch's omnipresence was a delight, and the ending both provided some beautiful closure and left plenty to make you eager to pick up the last book right away.

Lesbians, teen angst, possession and so much queerness! I love this trilogy so far though it was hard to outdo the magic (pardon the pun) of the first book. Still, I can’t wait to read book number three!

i love this series <33

the cast of characters is so enthralling and wonderfully queer. it is the perfect contemporary nod to queer and feminine magic practices! i am dramatically attached to each scratch daughter, particularly sideways and yates. the inclusion of shiloh was also a fantastic (and intriguing) addition.

i wasn't quite as attached to this book as i was to the first, but clarke is taking the plot in an awesome direction. crossing my fingers for a third book!
