I thoroughly enjoyed Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jonny Sun's collaboration. The poems are very sweet and uplifting, and the artwork is classic to Jonny Sun's style. I highly recommend for a little pick me up.
Cute little pep talks (very little) that are sweet but forgettable.
I adore Lin-Manuel Miranda and his talent and his spirit. I love so much of his work ("In the Heights," "Hamilton," songs from "Moana," etc.). So when I saw he had a new book, I reserved it right away at the library where I work. But if you follow Miranda on Twitter, you've pretty much already read this before you pick it up. Yes, Jonny Sun's accompanying sketches are quirky and often cute; and Miranda's daily affirmations offer heartfelt encouragement and love. But they're all variations on a theme, really, and thus get redundant pretty quickly. Not sure why anyone was compelled to format this into a standard hardcover instead of a miniature gift book or something along those lines.
4 stars. I read this for the illustrations while listening to Lin-Manuel Miranda himself narrate it and I have no regrets. This was super cheesy and cute and put me in a good mood. The illustrations are fun and quirky and the poems themselves are cute little bite sized quotes of twitter-esque inspiration. I didn’t mind though, I’d listen to Miranda read the phone book and be thoroughly entertained I’m sure. It’s a very quick and enjoyable read if you need a little pick me up.
I got this from the library, and will buy my own copy soon. Love this
LMM's words are fine, but Sun's artwork and the book's design were more captivating.
