Yummy alpha males. im loving this world. its fun, the sex is hot, and the characters are so loveable, and they definitely fit their animal sides.

I liked it a lot.

One thing I didn't like was how Jess got mad that he treated her like a gentleman. I mean - he was a perfect sweetheart. I don't blame him for being confused one tiny bit... How does a male supposed to know he was doing wrong by not acting like a freaking animal and acting violently? I think he has valid reasons to be frustrated. She should've just told him and saved some drama.

And what is it with those people and family abuse? I mean, they all have brothers and sisters they'd love to rip apart!!!

Also, I found some parts completely unrealistic - I mean, rich women at a party practically propositioning themselves out to the security? I don't care how hot they are - that sounds totally unreal...

But all in all, I enjoyed this book very much, as evidenced by my finishing it in a day despite it being a school day.

One last thing I didn't understand - why is this series called "Pride"? isn't pride like a Pack of lions? The first book talked about the lions, so it made sense, but this was all wolf x dog - no pride involved...

This is my first book in this series and I liked it a lot!! Jessie Ann and Bobby Ray aka Smitty are great together!

I would have liked more 'shifter action' there really wasn't much until the end, and if they hadn't talked about the different Pack's all the time, you wouldn't really know that this was a Paranormal/werewolf/shifter book.

I found it very confusing having so many characters and how all of the characters had three names. As dumb as that sounds, since those were my only complaints, I must say I really did like the story and all 150 characters that we were introduced too though out the story.

I usually really like Laurenston's books, but the whole premise of the romance in this one is her saying no and him ignoring it. Just felt gross.

This book was fantastic. I loved Jessica. She was smart, geeky and kind.

I loved Smitty with his charm, big heart and determination.

I loved the way the relationship developed.
The way Jessica made Bobby Ray really give his all and Smitty who wouldn't back down and wanted to charm her. And he wasn't the typical ass*Ole alpha male that you often find in other books (altough, if well written they can still be fun). No he used all his wicked charm and, just like a dog with a bone, he would do it's all to make Jessica change her mind. The banter between the two of them was natural and fun, it never felt forced and contrived.
And the relationship developed very organically.

The secondary character, especially Jessica's pack were hilarious and a great addition to the story.

The plot itself is quite simple and just secondary at the love story between Smitty and Jess, but it also help drive the relationship,so it had its own purpose.

Honestly, this book could have very easily been 5 stars. Jessica and Smitty story is still one of my favourite of the series and they are still se of my favourite character.

However, there was one aspect of the story that just frustrated me to no end and ruined the possibility for me to rate this book 5 stars or at least 4.5 stars. And that's the bullying. Or more precisely, the way it was dealt with.

So, during their hig school year, Jessica was Heavily bullied (to the point where she was constantly hurt and hiding under benches and wherever she could) ... By Sissy May (Smitty's sister) and her own sub-pack of teenagers. Which include Ronnie (Sissy May's best friend). What made the situation frustrating wasn't really that they bullied her (altough that in itself is bad enough) but the way they just didn't care, didn't feel bad or apologize about it.

After Bobby Ray meets Jessica again after years (and the shock of seeing her so successful) he ask Sissy May more info about what happened to Jessica after he left and she and Ronnie LAUGH recounting how they called her "Spot" and making fun of her! They laughed! No remorse whatsoever, no guilt. They laugh remembering how they bullied her and thinking how "pathetic/weak" Jessica was. And no one said anything about it! Dez, who was present (and how actually know Jessica and even says she likes her) doesn't say anything to them! She doesn't reprouch them, nothing! Dez is the same one that in the "Mane Event" constantly bitched about Mace's sister (Missy) because Missy treated her like dirt. But Missy also never physically hurted her or encouraged bullying Dez. Yet, despite having just heard Sissy's comment what does she do? Nothing. And everyone else present? Nothing. No one tries to reprouch them for their action. No one told them (Sissy and Ronnie!) how wrong they were or how utterly disgusting their behavior was/is. No one. Not Mace. Not Brandon. Not Dez. Not even Bobby Ray. On his defense tough, he defended Jess in high school as much as he could He was the only one who actually defended her at all, and there is only so much he could do. However, I would have appreciated it if, aside from trying to defend Jessica, he had tried to talk to Sissy May as well (altough, having a better grasp of shifter dynamics after reading the whole series, I don't know if it would have actually helped or just made things worse). So yeah, in that scene I lost a lot of respect for all those present. And even if none of them condoned it (Mace actually later on, reassure Jessica after she hurts Sissy that she had it coming) no one said anything either. I would have just wanted other characters (aside from Jess' pack) to take it more seriously, especially Smitty. I mean, as I already said he defended her (or tried to) from the bullying but at the same time I would have wanted him to scold and reprimand his sister.

And neither Sissy May or Ronnie ever apologized. They just acted as if nothing happened. And, while I can see that it had a lot with pack and pack dynamics and the simple fact that Jessica was a scrawny weak kid that could shift in a wild dog surrounded by much bigger and dangerous shifters, I also can't get over it.

Luckily Jessica was able to get a taste of revenge on the two of them, especially Sissy (If she hadn't then I would have just been furious) But, to be honest, it wasn't nearly enough, especially because I just got the feeling that everything was just brushed aside by other characters. Altough, at least, Jess never forgives Sissy May (thank God!).

So yeah, that was one element that just ruined the book because it just frustrated me and kept me from completely loving a book that would have been otherwise perfect.

And the fact that the next book of the series would have been Sissy may didn't help at all. I mean, after all of that I should buy her book and even wish her an happy ending!?!? Ha. As if.

So, if anyone wonders why I haven't read "the mane attraction" but all the other "Pride" books: this is why.
After finishing "The Beast in Him", I was way too frustrated and angry with her charachter to read Sissy May's book.

Now, after reading all the other books, my anger for Syssy's character has diminished, so maybe one day I'll pick her book up and give it a chance (while trying to forget that she is the same syssy may of this book) but she and Ronnie are, up to this day, my least favourite characters, the ones I kind of hate. Altough to be fair, Sissy may in the other books is slightly better (she could be slightly likeable/tolerable if it wasn't for this book), whereas Ronnie still aggravates me (I honestly would like to swing a bat at her and just have her disappear altogether) . So yeah, I'm not a fan of them.

Overall the story is still amazing and Jessica and Bobby Ray are still some of the characters I liked the most in this series. It's just that my enjoyment of story was suffered from the aforementioned situation.

Omg the family's in these series are bat crap crazy. Love it. Part of me doesn't like sissy with all the bullying but it does have a lot to do with the wolf. I like how the packs from other series were involved in this book not much but they are mentioned.

~ 4 The Beast In Him Stars ~

The Beast In Him is book two in the Pride series by Shelly Laurenston. I absolutely love this series. It’s the perfect book to get you out of a slump. This one was a re-read and I loved it all over again.

Ms. Laurenston did it again. We get a fantastic cast of characters and a ton of humor. The author does a great job using the many natural behaviors of the species that she is writing about for her characters. The way the species groups are described is wonderful.

The plot line is not to strong, but that does not bother me.

I love the characters. Smitty and Jessica are childhood friends. I like it when their is a history between the leads. Now 14years later each have life experience and have grown in different ways, even though they still are the same, they have become more. All the characters are fun and entertaining. We also get some great cameos from previous characters and more new ones are introduced. I love the camaraderie the characters have with each other. It’s fun and refreshing for me to read. I also like that none of her characters are normal. Both the men and women, shifter or not, have a little crazy in them. I love this.

Fantastic, fun, and humors. The Pride series is one of my go to series, especially when I need a pick me up.

Audio May 2018: I enjoyed the audiobook. I liked Smitty's slow draw talking. It felt like the character I had read. No issues on this one. It was good!

Audio May 2020: Enjoyed it all over again.
