Heartbreaking story of two Cree brothers. The author tells the story with heart, a little magic, humor, and the realities of residential schools and life in the mid to late 20th century.

Took me forever to read this and I hoarded it from the library for months but it's not the book's fault, it's mine. This book makes you suspend understanding and go with it to places that are simultaneously beautiful and despairing. I haven't read enough work by indigenous writers, making a list as of now.

Disturbing and beautiful. I think the mix of poetry and prose is well-balanced but it's probably not for everyone.

I think a lot of me not being able to get into this book is because I have zero musical theory background.
