This is one of my now 5-year-old cousin's favorite books and she chooses it for me every time. Soon I will have it memorized. This book tells the beautiful story of a giraffe who finds his one skill. It shows the uniqueness of every creature and how with guidance and the right toon, anyone can be talented. The illustrations in this are quirky but wonderfully done. I hope I will be reading it again soon!

Oh dear. I've just realized a whole new venue of books that I should rate here... the books I've carefully selected and purchased for my godson.
Now, I know that lots of people buy books for kids, but since we're not terribly religious, we tend to point towards the temple of education and the safeguarding of his literary tastes. No idea what the future holds, but up to now, I've been rather spot-on with my books, even from 3,000 miles away. I've developed a reputation of being such a good book selector that every time Cole gets a new one, he promptly declares it to be his new favorite, even before reading it.

Giraffes Can't Dance is one of the great books that I've given my godson over the past few years. The illustrations are fantastically bright and very clever. (You only need to look at the cover to know that one!) In the animal kingdom, your dancing skills apparently count for a lot and poor Gerald the Giraffe is teased for his awkward ways. But in a very Thoreau message of finding one's own drummer/music, Gerald ultimately finds the music to call his own and thus is able to dance with confidence and joy. Giraffes Can't Dance is a great example of a lovely book that features a good message and captivating illustrations, thus creating an excellent book for all kinds of kids.
