I liked this book as a simple and easy read to get me through the heavier books I am reading and have recently finished.
I liked it because of the message it presents, and the beauty in simplicity and feeling all of the emotions without letting them control you.
But maybe I found it could have been a better book? Maybe I found it too simple and the moral of the story was just too obvious?

I definitely absorbed more or the book’s message the second time reading it (and doing so outside of school). I recommend it to others as well.

An absolute must-read. Very introspective, especially in today's society that is so driven by trends and conformity. A book for all ages (though there are some dark themes).

Even though I’ve read this in middle school almost 20 years ago, it was like reading it for the first time now. I remembered so little. The only two things that I remembered were Jonas throwing an apple and noticing it “changing” and that he was meeting with an older man to receive memories/visions. Maybe I didn’t pay attention or comprehend what I’d read or maybe time just erased what I’d once read. There’s one quote towards the end of the book that I really liked: "If he had stayed, he would have starved in other ways. He would have lived a life hungry for feelings, for color, for love."
