Fast paced and energetic, I can't believe that this is a debut novel. An incredible twister of a story about a CIA analyst who discovers that her husband isn't who she thought. So many questions and decisions, should she chose her family or her country - and what a shocking ending.
The film rights have already been sold and I'm curious to see the casting - read the book first!!

Overall, a spectacular thriller that will cause your heart to race and make you stay up way past your bedtime.
Vivian came off as too naive. Once she knew her husband was working for Russia she began to question her history with him. Readers saw the red flags but Vivian didnt or didn't want to see them once presented with reality of her life. I was disappointed for her but it made for a thriller that I couldn't put down and a twisted ending I'm still thinking over.

To echo another review: in which lack of affordable medical care causes a national security concern.
DNF at around 83%
This book had interesting premise but was poorly executed. The writing became unbearable and the story itself was pretty bland. The characters were surface level and the main character came across as oblivious and stupid. I kept trying to go back to finish it, but kept putting it down because I couldn’t stand the writing and wasn’t interested in the story.
Below is a collection of quotes to show the quality of writing. All the sentences had this kind of rhythm. They were repetitive and in need of editing. However, if all the unnecessary words were to be removed, I don’t think the story would have much substance left.
“He hates it, me working these hours.”
“It’s what I want, to be done with them.”

“It’s what I want, to be done with them.”
“Matt kept his eyes on the road, didn’t look over. “
“I gave a little laugh, a nervous one.”
“I gripped the handle on the door, squeezed it tight.”
“I wash the dishes myself, dry them.”
“I look at the streets, the pattern of them.”
“I see feet come into view, bare feet, men’s feet. Now legs come into view, muscular.”
“He’s already pulled something out of his pocket, something small.”
“A long look, intense.”

The writing was repetitive and trite, the story was half-baked, plot "twists" were obvious, and the main character acted like such a dimwit that the plausibility of her ever being hired by the CIA seemed pretty remote. And that ending. Well, I guess that was the only way to wrap up such a stupid story was with an equally stupid, and predictable, ending.

Heart-pounding, indeed. Can’t wait for the movie! (There’s bound to be a movie made of this book....)

3.75 stars. A quick read - at parts moving slowly but the ending was quite unexpected. Will definitely read more from this author.
