A spot on character study, this definitely brought to the fore all of Han and Leia’s strengths and foibles.

Now any fan of Star Wars knows that Han and Leia technically don’t stay together in the long run, but I never once doubted they loved each other way back when and that wouldn’t change despite their inevitable future disagreements regarding their roles in how best they could serve the New Republic. Knowing this bittersweet fate of theirs, I really appreciated how much they supported each other despite their inherent differences.

Taking place immediately after the Alliances’s win on Endor, this is a whirlwind romance with a subsequent wedding and a honeymoon that is an opportunity for diplomatic and political maneuvering to strengthen ties and project unity and confidence, all the while trying to find some couple time that has been on short supply during the recent war.

This showcases Han’s instincts, his adaptability, and how his less than conventional ways usually plays in his favor. He continues to struggle with losing a year of his life to carbonite stasis, but he puts on a very brave front. Leia in turn is the consummate professional, but she too has her own personal doubts and worries, especially coming to accept the truth that Vader’s blood runs through her. Han and Leia’s inner turmoil and outer banter always work just right as they quickly discover that just because Palpatine is dead, doesn’t mean the Empire is obsolete.

I would give this higher marks but for me, this was too mired in all the details (big and small) and extensive minutiae on everything in this universe. Many will possibly luxuriate in this, but I was just impatient to get to the nitty gritty because that’s what I enjoy the most. The action and saving a moon under Empire tyranny is where this excels which frustratingly comes in the last third of this book.

Again, a thoughtful romantic look at the beginning of Han and Leia though one can see the writing on the wall. Overall, a strong entry but not a favorite.

Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel. 3.75star's.

I quite enjoyed this book. I'd describe it as a pleasant read with a few exciting elements thrown in. I had no issues with it but I just wasn't blown away by it and I've enjoyed other recent star wars books a little more.

Extremely odd feeling reading an advertisement for a destination that was only operational for essentially a year and a half.

There's absolutely no denying it: Han and Leia are the it couple. There is not a more banter-filled, sarcastic, passionate fictional relationship I can think of (except maybe Percabeth - hmm IDK tie?!) And this book was a big chocolate cake for my hopeless romantic heart!

And this book and the new Ahsoka series FULLY revived my Star Wars passion: seriously, it feels good to be this obsessively involved with the galaxy far, far away again!

But, I gave this book 4 stars and not 5 because the pacing was INCREDIBLY slow at times, and the story just kinda lost steam at points.

On the other hand, one of my favorite things as a Star Wars fan is all the beautiful and creative worlds we get to explore, and Madurs is certainly one of them! I wish we had a ice palace artsy moon in our galaxy!

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book to my fellow Jedi, and May the Force be with you, always!
