That was so good! I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of Han/Leia in general. I’m more of an Anakin/Padmé girl. But this book was so much more than a romance novel about their honeymoon.

A lot of Leia’s development focuses on Vader and her link to the Force. Since we went from a girl who had no idea she was Force-sensitive in the original trilogy to a Force-trained general in the sequels, it was nice to finally get some context. There’s also a lot of parallels with her biological parents (mainly Padmé) that was woven in and I absolutely loved that.

Han is still… we’ll, he’s Han and that’s how we love him. His development here is mainly centred around his relationship with Leia, but that’s enough. It’s a new side of him we didn’t really get to see in the movies. The way the author handled his PTSD was also very interesting. I like how the carbonite period wasn’t just thrown aside. It was traumatic and he’s still reeling from it. Leia is there to help him, but he’s the one shaking himself out of the memories when they plague him.

It was a very satisfying larger conclusion to the original trilogy that also sets the bases for the New Republic era.
