Darley, Georgiana, and Sasha are not likable. To be fair they aren’t exactly unlikable but they are all brats. Darley and Georgiana treat Sasha like she is nothing but a joke and not like family despite Sasha being their sister-in-law. The Stockton family fixes everything with money and are unforgiving of anyone they view as less than them. Georgiana is a privileged princess who finally comes to her senses at the end but it’s after making dozens of mistakes and hurting lots of people. Darley isn’t so bad honestly but she treats Sasha poorly despite knowing her family treats her husband less than stellar. Sasha is not assertive enough and truthfully never should have married into the family but she does come into her own towards the end and it seems her husband grows a little bit of a spine. All in all it was an interesting insight into the lives of New York’s elite. It was a good summer read and I couldn’t put it down because I had to know how these people were going to either fuck up their lives of make them better.

There are so many bad reviews on here for this book, but I inhaled it. I’m rather partial to a juicy and petty  family saga (other examples are The Nest and May We All Be Forgiven), so this was right up my alley. Not a single likeable character, but they were each endearing in their own pathetic way, and I loved to hate each of them in turn. I also loved the Brooklyn setting, it’s atmospheric thrum as distinctive a presence as any of the characters. I felt like I was there.

I almost stopped reading this book after about 30 pages.  It appeared to be another "poor little rich kids" book set in New York.  However, I continued and ended up with a book with a different take on the same old story.  I applaud the author's direction with the book, but there were enough dull moments that I can't give this book four stars.

Read this if you want to roll your eyes at the most un-selfaware characters of all time. I thought this was an entertaining, thought provoking look at the dynamics between a wealthy New York family, but that it tried a little too hard to make me sympathize with certain characters (Georgiana).

I *hated* the snobby, rich Stockton family at first. I wouldn’t call their character development very transformative and the “happy ending” was kind of a bare minimum effort. However, it was a quick, easy, and left me wanting to know more about how the family grows and each character develops

First of all, Sasha should have run far, far away from this family and their insanity.

But given that, I’m impressed with how the author made each character - even Georgiana, who is so spoiled and ignorant - a good arc. I read the book in one sitting and was horrified, compelled, and impressed by the misadventures of these rich people in a world I’ll thankfully never know.

A light hearted easy read. At times it felt like a reality tv show with a happier ending.

This was a fun family adventure. I would recommend this for someone wanting to get swept up into family drama with rich imagery.
