Although I am giving this a 4 star rating, it is more of a 3.5. I'm rating it higher because I don't believe that this volume is just mediocre. It has some truely gorgeous art and gives off a sense of floating through space and time. However it is a very difficult read because of the panel layouts. It's difficult to know what is important to focus on and what is just background. Faces aren't clear and it is just super busy on the page.

The story as well is all over the place, following it is difficult at times and nonsensical at others. But in the end it was a very interesting read and one that is with checking out, even if it is a bit on the rougher side.

Hands down my LEAST favorite Winter Soldier story I've read ever. The story was so off and hard to follow. It felt very trippy and even psychedelic which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it was just very unfitting for the comic version of Bucky I read from overtime. He just seemed so out-of-character compared to the other stories. Sure, it was cool to see Alpine & even Daisy Johnson but other than that it felt like I wasted my time reading it.

This was default two stars, but it had an aardvark so I let it squeak by with three. That and the pretty artwork saved it. However, as pretty much everyone has pointed out, you can't accomplish visual storytelling through whatever this impressionism is supposed to be. Can't follow the panel order, can't tell who's winning a fight, can't always even tell who's who on the page. If you want a book of pretty pictures and can ignore occasional text bubbles, this is the book for you.

The plot was pretty out there. Bucky and Daisy could have been replaced with any two characters with barely any effect on the story (to the extent that I was able to understand the story). I may be missing context, but I don't understand how Fury's files were able to predict the future... funny that there's a big event comic the next years about whether arresting people based on alleged future actions is okay and Bucky is just assassinating them now. Moral ambiguity is fun, but this guy was JUST Captain America.

MINOR SPOILER?
The love story was weird. Obviously there's a problem with making too big a deal about any new relationship in a comic, but this was pretty out there. The queen didn't really distinguish herself as a character enough for them to have chemistry, and the "it just felt so right" excuse might be explained later but it feels like teen fanfic here. The sexualization is weird, and the reveal that another character is watching it all unfold in his spare time is way weirder.

All that put together, though, and there was nothing in the book so offensive that I felt compelled to give it lower than three stars.

I guess it's okay. Interesting idea, on the surface. But that artwork made it almost impossible to follow.

Absolutely loved the first 2 issues. there were some very beautiful panels, and it hooked me at the end of the first 2, but then it kept getting more extra.... averaged out to a 4 maybe a 3.5... still deciding

i really wanted to love this for a lot of reasons (the most obvious being that i love bucky barnes), but: what did i even just read?

i’ll admit to being frequently confused by multiverse stories, but this one seemed especially indecipherable. it wasn’t fully clear to me who was narrating until the fourth issue (which i think was the point but that left me feeling ungrounded and frustrated for those first three issues). i’m usually all for experimental page layouts but those in combination with chaotic art and confusing storytelling made this whole thing a slog (there were multiple pages where i wasn’t even sure which dialogue boxes i was supposed to read first). the multiple artists is probably supposed to function as a clear distinction between parts of the story, but i found the shifts really jarring.

this all probably sounds worse than a 3 star review, and i mostly think i’m adding a star just because bucky and also he rescues and adopts a space pig. i want more space pig in the next volume.
