I DNF'd for the first time in a long time. Wow this is absolutely racist. Thailand is easily one of the most amazing places I've ever been and has a wonderful, rich culture. Every country has flaws but generalizing them and expanding them to stereotype an entire country feels very wrong to me.

Couldn't put it down. The changing narratives and short chapters meant it was really thrilling to read with constant twists that made you want to read on. I haven't read a book this fast in a long time. Thank you Fiona Barton!

This was a bit of a mystery. I guessed some of the events but other ones got me. I hope none of my kids turn out as selfish and immature as a few of the characters here! Over all an ok easy holiday read.

Maybe 3.5 stars. If Kate is in any other book in this series, I won’t read them

This is a great book! The plot and characters pulled me in and I wanted to keep reading.

A reporter is informed about the deaths of two English girls that were traveling in Thiland. She starts to investigate the story and finds out that her own son was involved! On top of that bombshell, the Thiland police are lying about what happened and are covering up the real story. What really happened to the English girls? What did her son do? Why are the Thiland police covering it up?

These are just some of the questions that you need answered before you want to put the book down.

i'm only giving these stars because I couldn't find any grammatical errors or misspellings. Otherwise this is a thinly veiled trope of a who dunnit that is too slowly paced to bear and with a tasteless ending that made the wait completely worthless. yet another book where the harming of young women by young men in romantic pursuit is a plausible plot point.  nothing clever or unique here. I wish I could have this time back.

Fiona Barton crafts a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning. Two missing girls. Thailand. An international hunt for answers. As clues appear, and the case is being worked, there are several places that make you sit back and go "OH!" As the families are thrown into the international spotlight, besides themselves with worry, Kate, a journalist has been getting to know the families on a deeper level as she looks into the girl's disappearances.

I could NOT put this book down! It was fabulously addicting! This was the first book by Fiona Barton that I have read, and it did not disappoint! I will be checking out her other works as well.

I enjoyed the story line in this novel and the way it was told from the different perspectives of the main characters, each bringing something different to the table.

Unfortunately, there were a few things that let the novel down for me.

The first was the lack of vibrancy the author bought to Thailand in the scenes that played out there. While I appreciate that this wasn't a holiday guide to Thailand, I did feel the author could have done more in the way of describing the place and what it's like to give the reader more of a vision about what it is like to be there. I also felt it was unfair that the only characters that the girls came into contact with there were either westerners on holiday doing crazy things, or the shady underbelly of Thai society.

The second thing that annoyed me slightly about the book was the emails that the author had put in from the point of view of Alex. I didn't feel they added anything to the story when they were recapped in detail anyway throughout the investigation. I can only assume the parts about Alex were put in there as a way for the reader to know she is telling the truth when it is later questioned.

Overall, this gets 3 stars from me.
