I just devoured ‘Sheilas: Badass Women of Australian History’ by Eliza Reilly and oh my goodness, what a read! I’m going to be bold and give it a solid 5 stars. I'm no historian, but I’ve always been interested in history, however, the tales I was fed in school were majorly male-dominated which could get quite grating. But oh, how this book brought a breath of fresh Australian air to my understanding of history.
Reilly handles these formidable women with such admiration and her cheeky, witty narrative style had me bouncing between roaring laughter and absolute awe! Whether it was Merle Thornton protesting pub regulations, Faith Bandler advocating for Indigenous rights, or Nancy Wake taking on Nazi territories, these stories felt like an adrenaline-fueled roller coaster ride through the undervalued pages of history.
This book didn't just give me a history lesson, it introduced me to role models, remarkable women who stared adversity in the face and charged right at it. It was hilarious, emotional, and most importantly, so darn empowering.
