One of my favourite books of the year! I loved the characters. The author showed such compassion for the loneliness of people. A creative premise and philosophical look at a few moments in time.

Fishbowl begins as Ian the goldfish jumps out of his bowl on the 27th floor of the Seville on Roxy. What follows is a story about life, love, loss, loneliness, and new beginnings. The nuanced narrative structure keeps you on the edge of your seat, as each chapter focuses on a particular character. The book is rifled with emotions; being equal parts dramatic, raunchy, ridiculous, and touching. It is a reminder about the interconnectedness of life wrapped in a clever, quippy, and moving series of stories. My book club thoroughly enjoyed this book and gave this book an average 4/5 stars.

Život jedného paneláku v štyroch sekundách pádu zlatej rybičky.
Malo to byť oddychové čítanie po náročnejších knihách, ale aj tak to donútilo zamyslieť sa. A aktuálna téma: susedia. Aj tak sa s tými našimi baviť nebudem.

More of a 4.5. It was an exceptionally well written and interesting novel, and the ending is probably my favourite ending of all time.

I received this book for free from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Fishbowl was unexpectedly quirky and delightful.

A fantastic novel that is equal parts, uninhibitedly funny and thought provoking. An unusual and captivating look at the lives of the inhabitants of an apartment building. Somer has a rare talent for making each and every character relatable, even as you feel a mild disdain for some.

I particularly loved the writing style, it filled me with a sense of whimsy I have not experienced since reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The author presents a number of flawed characters, characters with secret struggles that would normally feel clumsy or heavy handed, Somer handles with a deftness and compassion that strikes straight at your heart.

This was such a weird little gem of a book. I really enjoyed the way it was written - both the language and the structure. Just a pleasant, interesting experience. It’s almost like a collection of short stores that overlap one another, but told in a creative way.
