Like Hyperbole and A Half, this is a mixture of very serious and very silly topics. Some chapters made me laugh out loud and others were really poignant but there were quite a few which didn't work for me as much as I'd hoped. Overall I didn't enjoy it as much as Hyperbole and A Half but it still had the same heart and was worth the read for the stories I did like.

I love the way Allie Brosh discusses lighthearted and heavy topics. How she bounces between them lightly. It makes it fun to read and also informative. There's lots of wisdom contained in the life she's lived. It makes me sad how hopeless she can be, but I guess it does be like that sometimes.

No one can make you laugh and sob simultaneously quite like Allie Brosh.

Her art style lends to a silly playfulness, and it's all a good time when its about how silly dogs and cats are, or how crazy children can be. But then the blobby pink persona starts talking about death, and loneliness, and heartbreak. And you just sit there and contemplate your own pointless little weirdo existence.

Anyway I love these books so much.

I don't think a book has ever managed to make me laugh this hard before. The fact that it also delves unflinchingly into uncomfortable things (mental illness, grief, divorce) is frankly amazing. Allie Brosh is a gift to humanity.

Brosh's art style and storytelling are a good mix of laugh-out-loud funny, poignant, and thoughtful. I even shed a few tears. Overall, it was lovely and a nice break from some of the more serious books I've been reading!
