Very funny, while at times quite serious. Sometimes the stories are relatable, but most of the time you're just in awe at the absurdity of this author.

Something that annoyed me was the weight of this book. It is really, uncomfortably heavy.

I love Allie's work. Her blog was/is hilarious, her first book just as fantstic. I love her kooky take on life and her spastic drawings. I also know things haven't been going well for her, based on how she's posted (and not posted) on social media. This book, whether intentional or not, pulls back the curtain on what looks like a huge chunk of what's been going on, and shows how deeply it affected her. In true Hyperbole and a Half fashion, Brosh expresses it through crazy drawings and humor, but at the end, I was left feeling really sad for her and what she's been through. My heart goes out to her and I really hope she pulls through.

I'm giving this book 3 stars, mainly because a large chunk of the book was Brosh working through and explaining the life philosophies she was left with after certain events with her life, and the number of spastic, too-insane-to-be-true type childhood and life stories that I fell in love with through her blog were far and few between. But the ones she DID include were absolutely a joy to read!

Overall, though, if you're looking for entertainment, rather than an update on how Allie Brosh is doing and where she has been, I think you'd be okay skipping this one. For my part, I'm still glad I bought the book because I wanted to support her, however it isn't one I'll likely read again.

Like Hyperbole and A Half, this is a mixture of very serious and very silly topics. Some chapters made me laugh out loud and others were really poignant but there were quite a few which didn't work for me as much as I'd hoped. Overall I didn't enjoy it as much as Hyperbole and A Half but it still had the same heart and was worth the read for the stories I did like.

I love the way Allie Brosh discusses lighthearted and heavy topics. How she bounces between them lightly. It makes it fun to read and also informative. There's lots of wisdom contained in the life she's lived. It makes me sad how hopeless she can be, but I guess it does be like that sometimes.
