Poor guy living in snowed-in Syracuse. No wonder he’s such a good writer.

“ohhhhh so it’s George Saunders’s book ABOUT writing? well then surely THIS one won’t make me cry” - a fool
This book teaches the mindset of writing and discovering voice better than anything I have ever read. Saunders knows how to explain the macro and the micro, the practical and the theoretical, the concrete and the abstract all at once. He leaves you with a feeling of possibility, a feeling that cuts through the navelgazing and egotism that haunts those of us who try to create something. I can see myself revisiting this throughout the rest of my life.

Absolute masterpiece. Wow.

Sublime. If you thought you appreciated writing before, try seeing it again through George Saunders‘ eyes. I‘m sure there‘s something to learn in here for everyone

Really interesting to look at a variety of short stories and explore why they work (or don't) and from there hone one's own approach to the short story.

In this book Saunders shows you how to love stories you might have otherwise overlooked, and how to hopefully write stories other people will also love.
